You are not automatically disqualified. The SAPS have to do an investigation and there must be a hearing on the matter to establish if you are unfit to posses a firearm.
Since the crime you were convicted for does not contain an element of violence, it should not impact your application for a firearm license. So long as you qualify on all the other legal aspects, i.e. you have a competency certificate and the required safe, you should be fine and will get your license.
