Welcome to Justanswer. I can help you with this question.
XML files are usually opened with a Web browser (like Internet explorer or chrome) and will display all the content. If you would like to take a look at the code itself, you can choose to open it in any text editor like Notepad for example.
If you can give me an example of what are you expecting to see in an XML doc then I can guide you further
I have also used this website - http://www.pdfconvertonline.com/xml-to-pdf-online.html to convert the XML file to PDF format which you can open in adobe acrobat.
Have you tried opening it in internet explorer and notepad already ?
sure, that will help.
ok, can you please give me 10 mins to check it out. Will get back to you.
Hi, it seems that the file was created by a software - SMS backup and Restore. Will it be possible for you to send me the actual XML file itself ?
ok, I am looking at the software you are using. Can you please make sure that you are following this instruction and take the backup once again -
Make sure that the preferences for “Add XSL Tag” and “Add Readable Date” in the Preferences of the app are checked before taking a backup
Once you take the backup again, software should create an actual SMS backup file for you
Can you please confirm once you are able to see the backup XML file
ok, could potentially be a different version of the software. DO you however see the Backup file itself ?
ok, that sounds good.
if you want, there is another easy way to look at the file. Simply open the file in excel. Follow these instructions -
That should bring up all the SMSes
if possible, can you please attach the file in your message and send it across
hmm, can you please send me the file so I can try it out as well
You can attach it in the message itself if you want.
or just load it to your google drive or box account and send me the link
it might be easiest to simply load it to Google Drive. The file will probably get blocked through email as well because of the security reasons
Thanks! give me a few mins to check it out.
Thanks! that worked, I was able to open it in excel. I have loaded it to box. Please check it out and let me know if I can help with anything else.
Please don't forget to provide a rating if everything looks good. It was a pleasure working with you today.
Sorry, just realized that I might have posted the wrong link. Please use this one instead -
Hi, Can you please confirm that you got the file. Since they contain your personal SMS, I will delete the link once you confirm to protect your privacy.
Please let me know.
The dates that are coming up are because of the way software is operating. "Add readable date" option would have corrected it like I mentioned earlier but it seems like you are using an old software version which does not have this option.
Can I go ahead and deactivate the link then ? Please let me know if I can help with anything else. Will really appreciate if you can kindly provide a rating without which I am not credited by website for helping you.
One more thing, if you look at the "readable_date" column in the file, that will give you the actual date the SMS was sent. It seems like software is creating multiple fields and you simply have to choose which one is useful for you.
