Customer Question

In all previous versions I've had, I could pin a folder's shortcut to my task bar and/or start menu, so that when they are clicked, they open in explorer with the trees showing in the left pane in order to navigate and move files among parents and children. But now in win10, none of thisshows up in the left pane of file explorer. How do I fix this?
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
also, everything I search for using windows search says "no results found", even though I know it exists.

If searching through the Windows 10 Settings page is extremely slow or returns “No results” message, then here are some things you need to check out:

Check if Windows Search Service is Running

Press WinKey + R, type services.msc and press ENTER

Double-click Windows Search and set its start type to Automatic

Manually start the service by clicking Start in the services window.

For your navigation pane: press windows + E, click view, click navigation pane on the left. Then click show navigation pane.

If you are satisfied with the help I have provided, please remember to click and submit a 5 star rating on this page. Your feedback is important as it is the only way I am credited for assisting you. Thank you.

Windows Search was set to start type Automatic, and was running.
Yet when I type "Display settings" or "Device Manager" into windows search, it says no results."Show Navigation Pane" was already selected, and it does show. ...but that was not the issue posted in the question, so please read it again.

Thank you. I will open this up to another expert for you. Please standby for your expert to assist.

ok, I found part of the solution. Here are the steps:
1. open file explorer and click on the View menu.
2. click "navigation pane" then activate "expand to open folder".Now I just need to find a way to put these folder shortcuts as individual icons on my taskbar. And get windows search to work.

if I use search, like I mentioned, "Device Manager" shows up as a result under best match, but when click on it, it says no results. So windows is confused somewhere.
