I need to backup all of my e-mails to disk, not the cloud, from various accounts (AOL, etc.)
What is the best program to do this with?
I don't need bells and whistles. is there a good freeware program and (if so) where do I get it?

Your only option, is free, however it is not painless Mark. You would need to set up outlook on your PC, and add each account and set it to pop3 which will download all the mail to outlook,. and thus localy on your pc

windows 8 at the moment.
However, is there NO way to store the e-mails on a disk?
I go through computers like water.

Like i said above there is, using outlook which is alrready on your computer.
