Shut down my computer overnight with the Free Agent external drive still attached.
Next morning when I started my computer Free Agent did not respond.
When I click on the drive a receive a message:

The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
I have a lot of information on this drive.

Hello Tony, and thank you for choosing JUSTANSWER.com

.

If the drive just wont spin up, and the data is still on the spindles, then YES it is recoverable.

.

However, the spindles need to be removed from the hard drive and inserted into a WORKING housing, which would require a CLEAN ROOM. Any microscopic dust on the spindles, and it WILL destroy data.

.

I have only had to do this one other time in my life, and it cost me over 3 grand for them to recover just over 100 GB of data.

.

Almost all data can be recovered, just not at home. It has to be done in a lab, with a CLEAN ROOM. That stuff is VERY expensive.

.

I have provided a couple links you can check out, related to this service that can recover data from broken hard drives.

Thank you for the quick response.
I am sending the drive to Seagate in Oklahoma.
They have quoted me $550 to recover data.
What are your thoughts?
Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 1 year ago.

Not bad.....it would seem that prices have come down since i had my drive recovered, about 5 years ago.

.

Seagate is a hard drive manufacturer, so I'm sure they have the facility and the knowledge to do it. Price is good, and the company is reputable. Great Work!
