In AutoCAD Lt 2015 how can I eliminate all lines that have a "Z" dimension greater than zero? I only wish to operate in 2-D and I am having trouble using Extend and Trim commands with such lines.

Hi there,

You can use the FLATTEN command to change the Z values of all affected lines to 0

(This command requires Express Tools to be loaded)

  1. Turn off or freeze any hatch layers with hatch patterns so they are not included in the selection
  2. Type FLATTEN at the command line
  3. Select all objects and hit Enter
  4. Type N for No when prompted to Remove hidden lines.

Alternatively, you can use the CHANGE command and the Property Palette with the Quick Select command:

  1. Type CHANGE
  2. Type ALL to select all objects and then Enter
  3. Type P for Properties
  4. Type E for Elevation
  5. Type 0 and then a final Enter to end the command
  6. Open the Property palette
  7. Select the Quick Select button at the top right corner of the dialog
    1. Set Apply to: ***** *****
    2. Set Object type: Line (may need to repeat this process with Polyline and Arc)
    3. Make sure that Include in new selection set is ON
    4. Select Ok
  8. In the Property palette, set Start Z and End Z to 0
