Need help removing Lavasoft Ad-Aware. Im need to get rid

This answer was rated:

Need help removing Lavasoft Ad-Aware. I'm need to get rid of Lavasoft Ad-Aware in order to install something else. I've been hassling with this all day. Ad-Aware shows up in the Add/Remove Programs list, but when I click on it it doesn't give an option to do anything to it (Modify/Remove). It also doesn't list a size, just has "Used rarely". There are no files/folders for Lavasoft or Ad-Aware (I've searched for them and deleted all). I also found some instructions for finding and deleting registry entries for Lavasoft/Ad-Aware and have done that. Also emptied the recycle bin. Ad-Aware still shows up in Add/Remove Program list. Have re-booted multiple times (after different changes) and also have tried to install Ad-Aware and then uninstall it and delete things all over again. Still Ad-Aware with no size in list (uninstall of one installed today was a separate entry in list). Running Windows XP, Service Pack 3. PLEASE HELP, I'm going crazy!!!.
Hi, Happy New Year, my name is Sergio. Thanks for allowing me to help you.

It seems like you have successfully removed the program, so I would suggest you simply remove the entry from the Add/Remove list. Follow these instructions to do so:

Hi Sergio,

I'm not sure if my reply went through so here it is again . . . I went through the entire (huge) list of registry items in

and couldn't find one for Ad-Aware. Any other ideas?

Did you see anything called Lavasoft, or something similar?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

No. Remember that I had previously searched the registry for "Lavasoft", "Ad-Aware", "Ad Aware" and "AdAware" per another thing I found on the web on how to remove Ad-Aware which had other items that needed to be manually removed (like these registry items) that the uninstaller didn't remove.

OK, let's take a different approach:

Download, install, and then run the following utility to clean your system:

Ccleaner - this will remove unnecessary files from your PC and free up a significant amount of space, including temporary internet files and other junk files. It will also clean out the system registry, which is where all of your program pointers reside. Run the file and registry cleaner 2 or 3 times each, or until they do not come up with findings..

  1. Click the above link and then select Download (the Green box)
  2. Once the file is done downloading, launch the installer and follow the prompts
  3. I would recommend unchecking any options that ask if you want to install any add-on software, like Yahoo toolbar.
  1. Follow the prompts to complete the installation
  1. Once installed, launch the program from your Desktop or Start Menu
  1. Click on the Analyze button on the bottom of the screen (optional - uncheck any items that you do not wish to scan)
  1. Check to be sure nothing will be deleted that you may want to retain. It is rare to want to keep any of the files.
  1. Click Run Cleaner, this will delete all of the unnecessary files.
  1. Click on the Registry tab
  1. Click Scan for Issues
  1. Once complete, click Fix Selected Issues
  1. Click Yes to save a backup of the registry file
  2. Click Fix All Selected Issues
  3. Repeat the scan until no issues are discovered
  1. Run the utility on a regular basis to keep your system running smoothly. You may want to uncheck some Internet browser options if you find that it is removing things that you may want to use or refer to, like your internet History.

Let me know if you still have the problem.

Hi Sergio,

I did the cccleaner until the analyze didn't find anything and the registry part didn't find anything. Then I re-started just in case. After that the stupid Ad-Aware still showed up in the Add/Remove Programs list. Then I thought to check to see if the program that I've been working on installing still stopped it's install because of Ad-Aware . . . IT DIDN'T!!! THANK-YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!
