I recently signed up for SS benefits and Medicare. I am
I recently signed up for SS benefits and Medicare. I am retiring at the end of April. I received a first letter stating my Monthly Premium for Medicare Part B would $144.60. After forwarding my information to the IRS, I received another letter indicating I am now going to pay an additional premium of $318.10 for a total of 462.70. This additional amount was based on a 2018 MAGI of $171,556.00. My question is, why only look at my 2018 tax return. I sold some stock that raised my MAGI in 2018. What above any other tax return years? My yearly salary doesn't come near to the 2018 amount. I'm penalized for the rest of my years of SS and Medicare based on one year of tax return? I've been trying to call SS but cannot get through due to the current situation. Can I file for a review or grievance? Not sure what to call it or my recourse. … read more

IRMA: My age is 70 and am retired. The issue is letter from
My age is 70 and am retired. The issue is letter from SSA indicating paying $144, another letter indicating paying IRMA of $144, another letter rec'd today indicating paying $31.50 for part D. My wife rec'd the same thing paying the same amounts. We filed jointly in 2018. Have filed LCE document with SSA on 1/3/2020 but current info from them makes no reference to that filing. My wife will be retiring in Feb 2020. Every time I get a form letter the information changes. Our gross income as SSA has shown is correct. Do or or both of us need to file an appeal? Our income for 2019 will come down but not sure of the projected total at this point. Regards. … read more
