I recently signed up for SS benefits and Medicare. I am retiring at the end of April. I received a first letter stating my Monthly Premium for Medicare Part B would $144.60. After forwarding my information to the IRS, I received another letter indicating I am now going to pay an additional premium of $318.10 for a total of 462.70. This additional amount was based on a 2018 MAGI of $171,556.00. My question is, why only look at my 2018 tax return. I sold some stock that raised my MAGI in 2018. What above any other tax return years? My yearly salary doesn't come near to the 2018 amount. I'm penalized for the rest of my years of SS and Medicare based on one year of tax return?
