When on died on the day they are to receive their s.s check,what happens When dies the day after the s.s. check arrives, what happens ?

Accountant's Assistant: Is there anything else the Retirement Accountant should be aware of?

My wife wants to know. when & in part of [s.s. check] siblings can keep upon the death of their mother. She receives her s.s. check on the 3rd of the month. P.S. My wife is NOT dying, she just wants to know.

SSA can’t pay benefits for the month of death.

That means if the person died in July, the check received in August (which is payment for July) must be returned. If the payment is by direct deposit, notify the financial institution as soon as possible so it can return any payments received after death.
