You will need to have at least 40 credits to qualify for Medicare.

The SSA uses your total yearly earnings to figure your Social Security credits.

The amount needed for a credit in 2018 is $1,320.

You can earn a maximum of four credits for any year.

The amount needed to earn one credit increases automatically each year when average wages increase.

So far - you will need to have at least ten years working under social security system.

However - as you are above 65 - you still may apply for Medicare - and pay full premium cost.

.

If you buy Part A, you'll pay up to $422 each month in 2018. If you paid Medicare taxes for less than 30 quarters, the standard Part A premium is $422. If you paid Medicare taxes for 30-39 quarters, the standard Part A premium is $232.

After you will have 40 credits - Medicare Part A will be free.
