Hi. My name is ***** ***** I will be happy to help you.

At what age the wife applied for her own benefits?

Ask Your Own Social Security Question

If they were married for at least 9 month she will be eligible for survivor benefits, 75 - 100% of the amount the husband was receiving at the time of his death. The percentage depends on her age when she applied for her own benefits. If she applied at 65 or later she will be eligible for 100% or $1103.

does the wife retain her own benefit--in her case 463

No. The benefits are not stacked. She can receive her own or survivor, but not both.
