I am 68 and...

I am 68 and my husband is 66. Neither one of us has started to collect social security benefits. Can I collect half of his monthly social security payments until we do start collecting our own? How would I apply for this?

Accountant's Assistant: These retirement benefits are supposed to help us but they can be so complicated! The Retirement Expert will help you get the most benefits propertly. Is there anything else the Retirement Accountant should be aware of?

I don't think so.

Hi. My name is ***** ***** I will be happy to help you.

After April 2015 you cannot collect spousal benefits until your spouse does not apply for his own. Because you were born before 1953 you are still eligible for restricted application, meaning you can apply for reduced spousal benefits and let your own grow until 70 but in order to do so your spouse must be collecting his benefits.
