Customer Question
HI: my...

HI: my wife took early Soc Sec at age 62 on her work record. I took it last year to age 67 & 3 months on my work record. When we tried to get 1/2 of mine for her now, they said that she is not eligible to move to my record since she took on her's early. My work record is stronger, therefore 1/2 mine is a higher monthly amount. Are we on solid footing here to pursue her payments at 1/2 of my final work record? PRH

She may be eligible for social security benefits based on your working record.

However - because she started her benefits at age 62 - before her FRA - full retirement age - she would not be able to have 50% of your benefits...

Her benefits will be further reduced because she started earlier.

Let me know her year of birth - and I will determine that exact reduction.
