If I started getting...

If I started getting SS in August of this year, can I stop receiving checks and go back to working more hours at my job? I'm 62 and think I'd like to wait till I'm older

Accountant's Assistant: The Retirement Accountant will know how to help. Is there anything else important you think the Retirement Accountant should know?

If I can't stop receiving checks, someone told me I could get part of my husband's check included in mine. Is this true?

Hi. My name is ***** ***** I will be happy to help you.

You cannot stop your benefits and reinstate it later without consequences. If you have earnings above 17K, your benefits will be reduced or eliminated and you will get the extra credit when you apply later but your benefits will always be treated as reduced, started at 62.

You can, however withdraw your application, repay all the benefits you received so far and then reapply later.

I am not sure who told you that you can get your husband's benefits, but he is wrong. You can have benefits based on your husband's records if benefits based on your own records are lower than your spousal benefits (based on his records). But you will not get your spousal benefits in addition to your own.
