I am a retired teacher. Have my late husband's SS because it was higher than mine and I'm under Kaiser.

Accountant's Assistant: Is there anything else the Retirement Accountant should be aware of?

In general - yes - you may enroll into Medicare as son as you turn 65.
Medicare Part A is free for most retirees.

Medicare Part B premiums are $134 for most retirees (or higher if you have larger income)
But if you run a small business - Medicare premiums may be deducted as self-employed health insurance premiums.

You may delay Medicare enrollment if you have other health insurance coverage.

Medicare Part A covers your hospital expenses. This includes hospital stays, skilled nursing care (as long as custodial care isn't the only care you need), hospice, and home health-care services.

That is free - and I see no reasons why not to be enrolled.

Medicare Part B is your health insurance coverage. It covers medically necessary services to treat illnesses or conditions, such as doctor’s office visits, lab work, x-rays, and outpatient surgeries, and preventive services to keep you healthy, like cancer screenings and flu shots, etc.

$134 Medicare Part B premiums is per month.

If you have similar health insurance plan - you may opt out from Medicare Part B - but if you will decide to enroll later - your premiums will be 10% higher for each year you delay.
