My spouse just signed up for SS retirement. How do I sign up for spousal benefit?

Accountant's Assistant: These retirement benefits are supposed to help us but they can be so complicated! The Retirement Expert will help you get the most benefits propertly. Please tell me more, so we can help you best.

My spouse jsut signed up for SS retirement. I want to sign up, not under my own benefits, but for spousal on hers. How do I do that?

As soon as her application is acknowledged, you can sign up for spousal benefits online (from your online social security account), calling social security directly or visiting your local social security office. If your own benefits are less than your spousal benefits, make sure you request restricted application, otherwise you will receive your own benefits. How did your wife apply?
