Customer Question
I am 63 years...

I am 63 years old and was told I had to go off on my SSI disability and collect Social Security Retirement which in my letter state I would receive $1,199.00 per month. However the past couple of months I have only received $1,088.00 and a separate $87 (formerly part of SSI). Why is this happening if I am no longer on SSI? Please call(###) ###-####or email me @***@******.*** to inform me about this discrepancy. Thank you, ***** *****

Hi. My name is ***** ***** I will be happy to help you.

You probably had to get off your disability because you are working too much and according to SSDI rules you are not disabled any more. SSI is technically not a social security benefit, it is type of welfare program for older beneficiaries. And as such it is paid separately, not with regular social security benefits. SSI is generally paid on the first of each month, while your SS benefits are paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday, depending on your date of birth.

If you no longer qualify for SSI than you need to contact social security to notify them about the change.

I went to my local Social Security and they are aware I am working and took me off of SSI disability and sent me a letter also stating I was to be receiving $1,199.00. However I am only receiving $1,088.00 in addition to $87 separately deposited. My question is not WHY I am off on SSI but WHY I am not receiving my full $1,199.00 amount. Thank you.Josephine Maniscalco

We do not have access to individual accounts, but here's what probably happened. Most of the letter are computer generated, these are not send by a real person. Most likely the letter was generated before you were taken off the SSI and you will get another letter with lower amount, generated after an agent made the adjustment. It is not uncommon.

Do you have access to your online social security account? You can generally download determination letters from there. It usually takes couple of weeks or longer to get them in mail.
