Customer Question
I have worked 23...

I have worked 23 Years with the Federal government and they are offering me an early out. with 23 years of of this employment, would I qualify for full social security at the age of 62?

Accountant's Assistant: The Retirement Accountant will know how to help. Please tell me more, so we can help you best.

I am receiving what they call a FERS offset, they pay my social security starting at the age of 56 as if I was 62. my SS statement states I should get just under $1800, but they are only paying $1100.

Accountant's Assistant: Is there anything else the Retirement Accountant should be aware of?

I have contacted my congress and representative of congress and OPM is giving them the run around

If you work for a federal, state or local government agency, a nonprofit organization or in another country, you may be eligible for a pension based on earnings not covered by Social Security.

A pension based on earnings not covered by Social Security can affect the amount of your Social Security benefit.

If you paid Social Security tax on 30 years of substantial earnings you are not affected by the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP).

Estimated Social Security Benefit 1,875

Monthly Retiree Annuity Supplement (rounded to the next lowest dollar) 1,078 - that what they proposed to pay

Why these amounts are different?

By law, OPM estimates what your full career (40 years)

Total years of FERS civilian service 23 ..... Years divided by 40 .. = 0.575000 - that is a portion you are entitled

You would be getting full amount of 1,875 if you had 40 years of FERS civilian service.
