HI, MY NAME’S LANE - I hold a law degree (J.D.), with concentration in Tax Law, Estate law & Corporate law, an MBA in finance, a BBA, and CFP & CRPS (Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist) designations, as well - I’ve been providing financial, Social Security/Medicare, estate, corporate, non-profit, and tax advice 1986.

...

I'll be glad to answer your question, but you'll need to provide more information.

...

As an example, ... what KIND of disability check. Are you asking about a private disability policy, a disability payout from another employer? SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance?)

...

Please provide a little more detail if you would

...

Thanks,

Lane

SSI
Social Security Expert: Lane, JD,CFP, MBA, CRPS replied 8 months ago

While I'm waiting, if this is about SSDI (Social Security disability) then no only EARNED income can affect your SSDI.

...

If this is about SSI (Supplemental Security Income), however, yes income from ANY other means will offset the SSI

no I cant afford this
Social Security Expert: Lane, JD,CFP, MBA, CRPS replied 8 months ago

Oh, sorry, looks like we crossed there. Yes, I'm so sorry but SSI is affected by almost ANY kind of help. Money from family, inheritance, another pension etc.

...

(Please disregard any offer from the web site for a call) that did NOT come from me

Ask Your Own Social Security Question
Social Security Expert: Lane, JD,CFP, MBA, CRPS replied 8 months ago

The main difference between Social Security Disability (SSD, or SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is the fact that SSD is available to workers who have accumulated a sufficient number of work credits, while SSI disability benefits are available to low-income individuals who have either never worked or who haven't earned enough work credits to qualify for SSD

...

So again, yes if you have SSI, as opposed to SSDI, then yes the pension WILL affect your payments an COULD offset completely.

...

You should notify your case worker (or Social Security if you are in of the states where SSA administers SSI) so that you don't end up with an overpayment and get hit with the over payment bill

Please let me know if you have ANY questions at all, before rating me.

If this has helped, and you DON’T have other questions … I'd appreciate a positive rating (using the stars or faces on your screen, and then clicking “submit")

I hope that you’ll rate me based on my accuracy and thoroughness, rather than any good news/bad news content.

That’s the only way JustAnswer.com will compensate me for the work here.

Thanks,

Lane
