Customer Question
I receive SS disability...

I receive SS disability monthly. I have been told thru L&I I might be entitled to a settlement. With the settlement effect my SSD in any way?

Accountant's Assistant: These retirement benefits are supposed to help us but they can be so complicated! The Retirement Expert will help you get the most benefits propertly. Please tell me more, so we can help you best.

I do not know what more to tell you. I do not want to lose my SSD because that is how I have insurance and being diabetic I need my insurance

Accountant's Assistant: Is there anything else the Retirement Accountant should be aware of?

It is not retirement

Normal SSDI is not means tested, so you could get a settlement or really any type of non-work related funds and not be affected. You just cannot work for renumertion in excess of $1,170 a month. A settlement is not remuneration for work. As such, it would not disqualify you from SSDI. If you are on SSI, that is different and you must not acquire more than $2k in assets to get SSI.
