Hi. My name is ***** ***** I will be happy to help you.

Your disability benefits will turn into regular benefits at your full retirement age, which is 66. As long as you did not apply for your own benefits after 62 and than switched to disability benefits, your benefits will stay the same.

Regarding earnings, if you make less than $800 per month you will be all right. When on disability you have to watch out for two things: trial period (any month you earn over $800) and substantial gainful activity.

If you stop your disability social security will assume you do not consider yourself disabled any more and you would have to apply again, you cannot just choose when to continue your benefits.

After you reach your full retirement age you can have unlimited earnings without compromising your benefits.

Can I drop my disability and still have my husband s.s
Social Security Expert: emc011075, Tax Adviser replied 9 months ago

You need to contact social security and let them know. You will not lose your benefits immediately, you are allowed 9 month of working trial period. After that social security decide if you still need the benefits.

If your disability and take your widow benefits, first your benefits may still be reduced if you earn more than 16K by the end of the year and you will permanently reduce your widow as well as your own benefits because you will be applying for early reduced benefits.
