I am 70 years...

I am 70 years old and am receiving ssi. , but I have never applied for disability benefits because I was still workimg. I am a 60 percent disabled viet nam vet. Do I qualifiy for disaboility benefits, and how do I get an appointment?

Accountant's Assistant: These retirement benefits are supposed to help us but they can be so complicated! The Retirement Expert will help you get the most benefits propertly. Is there anything else the Retirement Accountant should be aware of?

I retired on March 10th this year, and I have paperwork from the vet admin dated about 2012. I never applied for disability assistance before because I didn't know if I would qualify, and I could still work.

HI, MY NAME’S LANE - I hold a law degree (J.D.), with concentration in Tax Law, Estate law & Corporate law, an MBA in finance, a BBA, and CFP & CRPS (Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist) designations, as well - I’ve been providing financial, Social Security/Medicare, estate, corporate, non-profit, and tax advice 1986.

...

I think that you may mean that you are receiving Social Security Retirement Income. SSI is one of the two types of disability insurance administered by Social Security (Stands for Supplemental Security Income), SSI and SSDI

...

SSDI Stands for Social Security Disability Insurance.

...

The main difference between Social Security Disability (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is the fact that SSDI is available to workers who have accumulated a sufficient number of work credits, while SSI disability benefits are available to low-income individuals who have either never worked or who haven't earned enough work credits to qualify for SSDI.

...

If my assumption is correct that you are referring to social Security retirement, you are past the age (actually, regardless) where SSDI can apply. SSDI is a pre-retirement benefit that automatically BECOMES retirement at full retirement age of 66 (for those born between 1943 and 1954).

...

And if you're working you wouldn't qualify for SSI (Again SSI being a means-tested program for the disabled AND old aged that have no real work record)

Please let me know if you have ANY questions at all, before rating me.

If this has helped, and you DON’T have other questions … I'd appreciate a positive rating (using the stars or faces on your screen, and then clicking “submit")

I hope that you’ll rate me based on my accuracy and thoroughness, rather than any good news/bad news content.

That’s the only way JustAnswer.com will compensate me for the work here.

Thanks,

Lane
