Your disability benefits are based upon your full retirement benefit at your full retirement age of 66 & 2 months + depending upon your actual date of birth.

All disability benefits automatically change to retirement benefits at your full retirement age, despite the fact that you are still in disability status.

If you were not disabled, then your full retirement benefit would be reduced by 8% a year for every year that you collected your retirement benefit early, ie. at age 62.

So the disability benefits that you are receiving are substantially more than the retirement benefits you would be entitled to at age 62, because the disability benefits that you are receiving are based upon what your full retirement benefits would be at your full retirement age. If, for whatever reason you full retirement benefits decrease at your full retirement age, from your full disability benefits, your retirement benefits would not be paid at a rate lower than what your disability benefits are.

Let me know if you have any follow-up questions.

Please remember to rate my response.

Thanks very much,

Steve G.
