My husband died July 9, 2017. I have received no payment

Customer Question

My husband died July 9, 2017. I have received no payment from SS since even though I did have a personal consultation with a rep. at the Salem office.
JA: The Retirement Accountant will know how to help. Please tell me more, so we can help you best.
Customer: I was informed that direct deposit would be made on the second Wednesday directly to my checking account . Have not received payment for July, August or Sept.
JA: Is there anything else the Retirement Accountant should be aware of?
Customer: Don't think so. I did receive a letter telling me what the new payment would be. Did not even receive the death benefit of $255.

A death benefit claim usually takes three months to process. And they will deposit an amount that takes you back, retroactively, to when you filed.

You likely have one more month, at the longest, to wait (depending on the date of your meeting in Salem).

Processing time varies, but IS running at about three months right now. When processing is complete you will see two checks (deposits). One for the back pay and one for the current month's payment.
