I am surrently collectin...

I am surrently collectin survivor benefits as are my children. I am turning 62 this year and I am wondering what will happen to my kids' survivor benefits if I start collecting on my own account.

Accountant's Assistant: These retirement benefits are supposed to help us but they can be so complicated! The Retirement Expert will help you get the most benefits propertly. Please tell me more, so we can help you best.

That was it.

Accountant's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Retirement Accountant should know?

No - I just want to know what will happen to my kid's survivor benefits if I start collecting on my own account.

When someone becomes eligible for another benefit, SSA always increases that benefit to the higher level by paying a combination of the two (sometimes three) benefits.

...

It's important to understand that benefits cannot be stacked, but they will always take you to any higher benefit to which you're entitled at the time (sometimes you need to file ... when you are already receiving benefits, sometimes you do not).

...

FOr many continuing to take the (sometimes) higher survivor benefit, while letting their own grow (could grow to 132% of your Full Retirement Age benefit if you wait all the way to age 70)
