Thank you. I am looking at this IRMMA Overpayment refund
I am looking at this IRMMA Overpayment refund answer on y9ur web page. I wnt on Medicare in June 2017.In August of 2017 I was part of a downsizing activity in our small company. I had several other job offers--but decided to hold off and see if all my financial planning would pay off and it did. I was paying the max IRMMA for a single person. Talked to a Medicare rep in their main support office. He told me to file a form 44 with my 2017 tax return attached and Medicare would refund the overpayments. I didn't get all my tax data (mainly the K1) until late this September. Fortunately I had already asked for an extension from IRS. I filed my 2017 taxes on October 12, 2018. I waited a couple of weeks for it to get in their system. Last week I put together the Medicare Form 44 and attached my 2017 tax filing which showed a substantial reduction in MAGI..Decide to hand deliver it to my local Medcaire office here in Durham NC. The rep there told me the 2017 tax filing could only be used for 2019 IRMMA adjustments. He said it was Medicare policy to give refunds on IRMMA. I am glad I saw this answer because it seems to indicate otherwise. But not sure what my next steps should be to pursue recovering these IRMMA overpayments. Thanks in advance for any suggestions on this. … read more
