Customer: still have health benefits from my company do I need to sign up for social security, I don't plan on retiring until later at the end of 2018

No, you do not need to sign up for benefits if you do not want to. In opposite, the longer you wait, the higher your benefits will be.

But I would suggest to look into Medicare option. You may get penalized if you do not apply when you became eligible at 65.
