Customer Question

Both my wife and I each receive SS benefits. Mine is about 3 times hers. What happens if I die before her? Does she receive a survivors benefit from my SS or is mine simply terminated with only the $245 death benefit?

Hi. My name is ***** ***** I will be happy to help you.

Your benefits will be terminated, nobody else can receive your benefits but after your death she will become eligible for survivor benefits, her benefits calculated using your records. Depending on when she started receiving her own benefits, she may be eligible for up to 100% of the your benefits.

By the way, if your benefits are 3 times higher than hers, have she considered to apply for spousal benefits, benefits based on your records?
