I receive Widows Benefits and I am wondering if I can get Medicare or Medicaid? I'm 61and I have been on Widows Benefits for a yr and a half.

To be eligible for Medicare you have to be at least 65 OR

  1. You have End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), or
  2. You have received Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) payments for 24 months (or in the first month of disability for ALS - Lou Gehrig's Disease

To be eligible for Medicaid, your income must usually be bellow filing requirement for your status (you are not required to file a tax return) and be US citizen, resident or otherwise legally in US.

Your state also may have "medically needy program" available. To apply for Medicaid you will need to visit your local or state Job and family center.
