If i die before my wife can she give up her social security and and collect all or a portion of
mine (my S/S is significantly larger than hers).

Yes, the way this works ... There are essentially three types of benefits for the retirement component (non-disability) portion of social security.

(1) Benefits on the worker's record

(2) Spousal benefits (50% of the other spouse's benefit, if taken after full retirement age)

(3) Survivors benefits

What you're talking about here is her survivors benefit.

Survivors benefit can be taken on a deceased workers record as early as age 60.

...

At age 60, the benefit is 71.5% of the deceased worker's retirement benefit, then up to 100% of the deceased worker's benefit (if the spouse waits until full retirement age to take it).

Benefits can't be "stacked," as Social Security calls it. BUT if the spousal benefit is higher than her own, her benefit will be raised TO that amount.
