Customer Question

My mom died May 4th 2014. I need to file a tax return and report her benefits for that fiscal year from January1st 2014 to May 4th (or 3rd) 2014. How do I find out what the benefits were (for her estate tax return) Her accountant isn't very helpful!!!

Hi,

...

That's going to be tough, if you don't have access to her records, banks statements, or prepaid card (if that's how she received the benefit)

...

It would have been the same amount for each month, if you can find evidence of even one of the payments.

...

There would also have been the 1099-SSA that came in January of 2015 for use with filing taxes.

...

Another possibility is to go online and use the "My Social Security" account, but likely, access has been disabled if the death has already been reported.

...

But here's the form that you'd use to order it from socal security: https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ssa-7050.pdf

...

What you MIGHT consider is completeing it and going to the local field office and see if they can expedite OR look up the numbers for you there

That's the form again, and here's the My Social Security page just in case it might still work
