Customer Question

When i signed up for SS I inadvertantly signed up for Part B, when I meant to Decline. I am currenty employed and covered through my employer. I have sent FAX's and left multiple messages and can get no one to call me back. Yesterday I received a bill for premiums and I have been trying to decline for months now. Can you please help and guide?

Hi,

...

You must do this in person at a social security field office (See this from Social Security)

...

"You can voluntarily terminate your Medicare Part B (medical insurance). However, since this is a serious decision, you will need to have a personal interview with a Social Security representative first. The representative will help you complete Form CMS 1763. This form is not available online. To schedule your interview, call us at 1-***-***-**** (TTY: 1-***-***-****) Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, or contact your nearest Social Security office."

I cannot get through on that line to schedule an appointment, 6 people said that i could fax the information and this has been going on for months.

I'm so sorry, but things have become really bad (on the front lines) at Social Security.

...

Our thinking is that the government cutbacks over the last several years have added to the already high level of incompetence my firm sees there every day.

...

Things have become so bad that my firm now send the applicable section of POMS (internal operations manual for Social Security) along with clients when they go to the office.

...

Here's the site (Socila Security's own publication) where you'll see the guidance, however.

...

In my experience, the only ABSOLUTE way to get this done is to go to a field office

Expert:  Lane replied 1 year ago.

And again, so sorry, but clients are telling me that what happens is they typically come away from that first visit with nothing more THAN an appointment ... BUT, that eventual appointment is productive (gets it done).

I hope you’ll rate me (using those stars, or faces on your screen, by clicking submit) based on thoroughness and accuracy, rather than any good news / bad news content. Otherwise I’m working for no crediting at all here.

Thank you!
