My son adopted our first grandson when he was 3 years old.

Customer Question

My son adopted our first grandson when he was 3 years old. My grandson's biological father passed away when he was 16 years old...he is now 23. Was my grandson entitled to received SS when his bio father passed? He didn't know about his bio father passing until resently like 2 weeks ago can he still get any benefits?

Unfortunately no. When your grandson was adopted the benefits of the "former" parent would have ceased to apply for him.

He would not be able to apply now for any "child" benefits based on the biological parent's work history.
