And when filing my Federal Income taxes, what is the marital status I can claim for 2016?

You will want to go to your local SSA office with your photo ID, birth certificate, marriage certificate and your wife's death certificate and ask to apply for the death benefit AND to inquire as to survivor benefit, should it be available and desireable to collect.
