What is the position if my wife dies. We are drawing benefits monthly before she died

My name is***** and I will be helping you with your question today. This is for informational purposes only and does not establish an attorney client relationship. If your wife is eligible for a social security benefit (she earned 40 credits throughout her lifetime) then you would be eligible for a survivor benefit which is 100% of your wife's SS benefit if you are age 66. Understand that you cannot receive both your normal benefit and a survivor benefit, they do not stack. You can receive the higher of the two benefits. So if her benefit is higher then you can switch to that but if you are already receiving yours and it is higher then you will see no change. It does not matter if she died out of the country only that she was eligible for U.S. Social Security benefits. Please let me know if you have any further questions and please positively rate my answer if satisfied. There should be smiley faces or numbers from 1-5 to choose from. This extra step will cost you nothing extra and will ensure that I will be compensated for my time by the site.
