Megan; My wife did not have enough credits to get on SSI,

Customer Question

Hi Megan; My wife did not have enough credits to get on SSI, but she can get on Social Security at a low rate. She says if she applys Social Security would required her to use mine to get her higher rates but would require me to be tied in to her rate. Are you saying that when she signs up for Social Security I am tied into that rate? Is there a way to prevent Social Security from pulling mine in?

Thank you for your question -- unfortunately, she can't draw off your benefit until you actually file yourself. She's tied to you. She can't get it now off your record, because you aren't drawing. I wish I had better news for you.
