I am a 64 yr old retired teacher. My husbands first wife

Customer Question

I am a 64 yr old retired teacher. My husbands first wife died young. Their son received ss benefits. My husband feels that I will get a portion of his ss when I turn 65. I get a retirement from teaching but didn't qualify for ss on my own. Help! Thanks

Thanks for your question. Yes, you are eligible for benefits on your husband's record. However, your benefit will be reduced by 2/3 of your pension. If 2/3 of your pension is greater than your entitlement, you will not receive a benefit.
