My daughter receives SSDI BENIFITS. If I leave her money in

Customer Question

My daughter receives SSDI BENIFITS. If I leave her money in my will, will she lose benefits?

Thank you for your question. Please permit me to assist you with your concerns.

Leaving her money does not inherently affect benefits. What would affect her benefits is if she agrees to accept the funds from your will (since a person can always refuse to receive). Then, if you are leaving her a substantial amount, it can indeed affect her benefits. In this case perhaps it would be more prudent to consider setting up a trust for her so that she wouldn't receive the funds directly, and funding this trust upon your passing.
