My wife is nearing 62. I think she would qualify soc sec

Customer Question

my wife is nearing 62. I think she would qualify for a soc sec disability due to
complications of diabetes. She has had all but 2 of her toes removed and has
circulation problems in her leg. Can we take the early soc sec now and try for
the disability later or should we begin the disability process

Hi from just answer. I'm PDtax, and can assist.

Better to try for disability coverage first, as the benefits are based on her full retirement age benefit. The approval process can take some time, so if you need to bring some money in immediately, disability might not be approved quickly enough.

If your wife can't return to work for 12 months of longer, she can qualify.

This article covers six conditions SSA will expedite processing. is a link to an article covering the expedited situations.

If your case qualifies, SSA visit for an expedited disability request would be best.
