if I die the last day of a month am I entitled to receive the next months SS payment since when I applied for SS a month was held out?

IN order to receive social security for a month, you must be alive the entire month --- so if you died on the last minute of the month, then you would not get the benefit for that month.

That being said, your benefits are paid one month behind so the benefit you were paid during the month of your death, you get to keep.

Example: You die February 28 at 11:59 PM -- your heir will need to return the social security payment that you are paid in the month of March.
