Thank you for the update.
I have one more question. Who is your cell phone provider?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Verizon
Expert:  Jason Jones replied 2 years ago.
Thank you.
Please, follow the instructions on your iPhone:
- Open the Phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
- When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"
- You should get a prompt stating something like "Settings updated." Wait for the call to disconnect.
- Open the Task Manager and kill the Phone, Message, and Contacts Applications. If you can't do this, you can simply turn the iPhone off and on.
- Wait a few minutes.
- Open the Message App to verify the fix.
Did that fix the issue?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Dear *****,
I tried *228 and it wrote on screen "This number not allowed."
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
What can I do now?
Expert:  Jason Jones replied 2 years ago.
Thank you for the update. That is quite confusing.
Please, try the next solution:
- From the Home screen, tap Settings > Messages > Turn iMessage ON and then off. Also be sure that it is set to show names.
- From the Home screen, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
After that is complete, turn the phone off and on. Once it comes back up, test it out.

Jason, Without me doing anything
the text spontaneously reverted to using names instead of numbers. Go figure! Thank you.

Have you ever seen it spontaneously resolve?
Expert:  Jason Jones replied 2 years ago.
Not really, I have not seen it resolve itself before.
When you attempted to dial *228, it may have forced something on the iPhone, in terms of setting values.
