VerifiedOK . Starter mounting should actually be a part of the oil pan sump, which is replaceable, starter isn't mounted on engine block itself. I can't recall the oil pan part number right off the top of my head but could check on part number at the shop tomorrow if you like. It is not a common issue with either the B43, B48 or P series Performers, which all use the same sump, unless there's a mis-adjustment of the starter gear to ring gear, or starter mounting bolts were left loose for too long.
That is one issue with the older design - the engine has to be pulled or lifted out a bit in order to access the bolts, as they are bolted in from under/behind the flywheel - the oil pan is otherwise the same, and in fact it might be possible your oil pan has those mounting holes for the older style starter, if they are drilled and tapped for it. I don't have any direct schematics or images showing exactly how they mount up unfortunately.
