Customer: I have a generac 20kw standby generator. No issues until today. I keep engine serviced regularly, but, today engine shut down on high engine temp. Generac installed Oct. 2010 and very reliable. Could you give me some guidance. Billy McGallian
JA: When did you last clean or perform maintenance on your Generac generator? How old is it?
Customer: The oil was changed last week. Filters and air cleaner was replaced in Dec. 2018. It is on a weekly auto run for fifteen minutes. Generac installed new when I built my house in Oct. 2010. It is propane converted and runs very well.very dependable until this occurrence. Engine starts, but shuts down in about 1-2 minutes on Engine High Temp.

Customer: This is first time this occurred. I checked oil. Good level. I cut generator master switch off. It is night here and red engine light stood out as i inspected tonight.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: All filters changed as scheduled. I keep maintenance performed as suggested in manual and generator digital screen.

Model number? Air cooled engine or water-cooled unit? On air cooled, could the plastic fan bolted to the flywheel be loose or damaged? Is air restricted to the unit? Sounds like the temperature sensor could be defective. If no overheat indicated, locate the sensor and unplug it for a test.
