How to tension deck...

How to tension deck belt on Craftsman ZTL 8000? I had Sears tech come out last week & replace drive belt. Since his repair, the deck belt does not engage the blades properly. I don't know if it is belt tension or electric clutch.

Mechanic's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. How long have you been dealing with this?

Since Saturday

Mechanic's Assistant: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

I've only mowed with it once since the repair. Yes, I plan on doing the work myself.

There is a spring attached to the idler pulley arm that pivots on your mower deck. This spring keeps your belt tight at all times, even when your engine is not running.

Check to see if your belt is tight. If your belt is the correct belt, and is tight enough, then your pto clutch could be slightly slipping.

On your deck, there is not away to adjust the tension on your belt. If your new belt is slightly slipping, it could be due to your belt being incorrect, or your pulleys could be worn.

No. The new belt is not the problem. The new belt is the DRIVE belt, not the deck belt.

I apologize. I thought you initially asked how to tension your deck belt?

I did. I cannot mow in the condition it is in. The deck seems like it is not being fully engaged when the PTO switch is engaged. You can't even tell a difference in the sound of the mower.

I am wondering if the technician reinstalled everything correctly? You did not have this problem prior to the services being performed on your mower.
