I have a honeywell 5500 generator and the motor needs

Customer Question

I have a honeywell 5500 generator and the motor needs replaced. How much for a new one ? Would I be better off getting a whole new generator?
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How long have you been dealing with this?
Customer: The engine has a loud knock and runs very rough for about 10 sec. Mechanic does not know with out tearing engine apart. Unit is at least 15 years old.
JA: Did you double-check the thermostat? And what about the unit's filters?
Customer: Not sure about thermostat. No oil filter on 5500
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: no
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?

Hello, my name is ***** ***** I am going to assist you with this.

What are the model and serial numbers of the genset?

Which brand and model engine is on it?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Honeywell 5500. 337 cc engine. Won't be able to get serial number til end of week. Haven't found serial tag stamp on engine yet.

Honeywell doesn't make their own engines.

Ok. Guess you cannot help me
Expert:  Hank F. replied 2 months ago.

I didn't say I couldn't help you.

I asked for moddl and serial number of the genset, as well as brand and model of the engine.

You replied "Honeywell 5000". That is not a model number, nor a brand of engine.

Model 5500 not 5000. My mistake. The engine is at the mechanic and he is out of shop till thurs so I can't get the info you need.Engine size is 337 cc. My experience overhauling small engines is not good. I don't do the overhauling myself. I thought Honeywell might know the engine size and cost for the 5500. Thanks

Which model 5500 is this? HW5500? GL5500? GP5500?
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Only 5500 on front of engine. No letters before or after. If they are on the id tag I won't get that until friday.
