After setting all winter my LA 100, 5-speed mower did not

Customer Question

after setting all winter my LA 100, 5-speed mower did not want to move. It worked great when put away. We had a long cold winter (5+ months of sitting). After about 3-4 minutes of a fast idle the mower would jerk slightly forward, then sit for a few seconds then lurch slightly forward again. I shut it off after about 3-4 minutes of this without much improvement. And here I am. What say you? Thanks.
JA: What's the make and model of the mower? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: It is a John Deere LA 100, 5-speed mower probably abut 6-8 years old. I bought it use so I'm not positive. I could get the serial number if it would help.
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Yes if it's basic stuff. Not if I have to tear a tranny apart.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: nope
