Customer Question

Just had 16kw generator installed by electrician and had propane dealer run gas line from tank to unit. The gas man put tag on tank that said line was good but leak in generator. So after my certified installer did the electrical work we fired the unit up and it ran we'll. We could not smell any fuel from the lines but could smell it out of the engine cavity. The installer stated that the leak was insignificant; However, three weeks later the entire 250 gallon tank (hooked up to the generator) was completely empty! This is very concerning, and feel that the installer should come out here and fix whatever needs to be fixed plus reimburse for some, if not all, the fuel! Is it possible for propane to leak out of the engine?

Yes, the LP can leak through the engine if the fuel shut off solenoid is stuck in the open position, but it would be rare.

It is much more likely that there is a loose fitting in the genset.

The test plug may also be missing from the regulator.
