sounds good. Thank you

Engine runs, so I would do the cylinder balance test. Loosen the spark plug wires, and with engine idling, remove one wire at a time. Engine should continue to run. If engine dies when either wire is removed, the opposite cylinder s not firing. Check it for spark, and compression.

Off hand, Kohler with surging, I suspect a bad coil.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
it is just odd that it runs great when the PTO in engaged
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
the spark plugs are clean and look new
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 9 months ago.

Have you ran balance test?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.

do you think it would the a coil? i am going to take it back in tomorrow but want to have some options for them
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 9 months ago.

Common problem, on Kohler engine. With the EFI engine, not as likley to be a fuel problem, as on carburetor-ed engine.. And Kohler wants you to replace both coils , if one tests bad,

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Okay i will let them know tomorrow to check the coils
thank you
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 9 months ago.

OK> Thanks!

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Hi curtis , it wasnt the coils
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 9 months ago.

So it was firing on both cylinders? Then better to have dealer check the engine. Sorry.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
it was . I took 1 out and started and did the same to other side
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 9 months ago.

How did plugs look? Both clean, with no deposits? You had just changed them and the filters?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
New spark plugs , air filter , oil filter , fuel filter . Ill be putting a new starter in tomorrow but i highly doubt that has anything to do with it surging
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 9 months ago.

yes, surge will be either fuel or spark, not anything to do with starter!

Expert:  Curtis B. replied 9 months ago.

Fuel mix, where the intake is sucking air can also cause surging,
