Customer Question

onan rv qg 7000 evap. Pretty sure fuel in carb is lacquer. Will low oil disallow unit to start?
JA: Do you have fuel in the tank? If so, is the shut-off valve open and the fuel clean?
Customer: valve open, fuel old.
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: I'm capable so maybe.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?

Remove spark plugs and put teaspoon of fuel direct into the spark plug holes, re-install spark plugs and see if the engine will start for a few seconds. If it does, the carburetor will need a through cleaning or replacement. Oil pressure switch will kill engine only after it starts,

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Took the carb off.
Removed bowl.
cleaned the best I could with carb cleaner, cleaner passed through to tiny holes on top of carb (at least the center one)
Cleaned green build up on solenoid tree holes (open but slightly clogged).
Sprayed the rest of the carb.
Same non start but still fires with starter fluid.
Codes 3 and 36.
Pretty sure a new carb is in order.

Has to be at carburetor. Is the fuel solenoid working , (clicking)if you flip switch on and off?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Switch? start switch?
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 11 months ago.

Is there a solenoid in the carburetor?

Expert:  Curtis B. replied 11 months ago.

If not, carburetor has to be problem, replace it.

solenoid at bottom of carb bowl.

It has to open the main jet as soon as the switch is tuned on, does it click open?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I can't hear it over the starter or feel it like sprinkler solenoids.
I could try 9v dc test.
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 11 months ago.

Needs 12 volts, but if it does not open, main jet is closed. You can bench test it.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Solenoid was stuck and gummed up, cleaned it and Benched it at 12v a few times.
reinstalled carb and Geni starts now.
Idle fluctuates for a minute or two then engine stalls.
Stalls right away if I put air filter on.
I lost the lower blue bushing for idle arm but it still seems to work (actuate freely without it)
FYI I'm at 7000' in Taos NM at campsite.
setting altitude to 5000' (highest) didn't seem to help.
My guess is bad gas isn't helping (I'll replace tomorrow)

!! Getting there! New carburetor is the likey answer, but new fuel and fuel treatment might be enough to keep it running!
